The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Product Description

Orphan, clock keeper, and thief, Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric, bookish girl and a bitter old man who runs a toy booth in the station, Hugo s undercover life, and his most precious secret, are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo s dead father form the backbone of this intricate, tender, and spellbinding mystery. 5 stars This adult LOVED it! 2010-08-26

Reviewer: Kathleen Waits

I can't say how kids will react to this book, but I LOVED it. The drawings are amazing and the story both magical and believable. A page-turner for sure. I know that *I* wanted to learn more about Georges Méliès and the early movies when I was done. Bravo!

4 stars Great 2010-08-24

5 stars Wonderful, rich reading experience! 2010-08-21

I loved the book. I bought a second one as a gift. It has an unusual combination of writing and illustration, where the drawings become part of the narrative. The writer weaves in the early history of movies, and particularly Georges Melier's films, in a magical way.

This book is a very good book, one of my favorites. I read this book 4 times.I was nine years old the first time i read (The Invention of Hugo Cabret). It made me feel big and older to carry a big book. It has a lot of illustrations so I could read it in a few days. I like this book because it has a lot of excitement and character to it. It's always busy so I didn't get bored. One of the reasons i don't like this book is because it has a lot of illustrations in it and that's why i only gave it 4 stars. For a little kid having lots of pictures to go with the story is good. But when I got older and read it 3 more times I wanted more story and not so many pictures. I still would recommend this book...My friend Karen is a book reviewer and does this alot. This is my first book review and I wanted to suprise her. Now we are alike for real.
