Danny the Champion of the World

This book explores a close father-son relationship. Danny and his father enjoy each other’s company while living an unconventional life. When Danny learns that his father (and many others) secretly poach pheasants, he becomes involved in the adventure.
I like how Danny truly appreciates his father’s character and enjoys his company. The rule breaking (and reveling in it) is standard Roald Dahl.
Best Audience:
Boys ages 5-11
Parts that might raise objections:
breaking the law being seen as acceptable
Ideas you will want to discuss:

Discussion Questions:
Do you think poaching is wrong?
How would you catch a pheasant without shooting a gun?
Would you like to live as Danny did?
What would you like to be champion of?
